Eira

The name "Eira" was chosen for the band because it is the Welsh word for "snow," which we thought would suit us, being Progressive Metal, because winter is cold and dark, unmerciful and unrelenting, yet beautiful at the same time. It is harsh, but breathtaking. That is what we are trying to recreate; we try to combine heavy and soft, dark and bright. Eira was formed in July of 2011 by Tom Gerwitz and Tom Jurkovic after jamming several times for fun. We both had a mutual interest in progressive music, and drew influences from Death Metal and Black Metal, but also from softer genres of music. Derek Schultz joined on bass shortly after the formation of Eira, and we soon began writing the rest of our first song. We entered Shredly Studios on January 9th 2012 for our demo "A Death Painted Portrait."
