Overcrown

Overcrown was born in October 2006 when Aleksandar and Dusan Djeric met Fabio Affili and Paolo Gallon. From the beginning, the band was oriented to play its own music (not cover songs) and the first songs were immidiately composed. After a few months the line up was completed with the drummer Leonardo Battistuzzi and vocalist Virginia Benedetti so Overcrown could start rehearsing and working on their songs. The first demo "Aequilibrium" was recorded in 2007, and the first live shows played, as well, during the same year. In 2008 Virginia and Paolo left the band, Giulia Penzo joined in on vocals with a new bass player, Stefano Oliana. The band decided to tune the guitars one step down, because the songs started sounding more aggressive. In 2009/2010 the live scene for Overcrown was very active and some great shows was played around northern Italy. The first "Raise the hammer fest" in San Donà di Piave was one of the biggest performances, with the Italian heavy metal band Burning black, in 2010. In the same year the band played with Dragonia from Firenze, a band which played at "Gods of metal" festival in the same year. Overcrown decided to record their first Demo "King Lear" at "High Voltage Studio" in 2010. In the meantime, again two members left (drummer and bass player) so the band was forced to stop working on the demo. Because of the impossibility to find a new drummer in a short time, Overcrown adopted virtual drums despite their tastes. Luckily, Elia Dalla Pola joined the band two months later and immediately started to work on bass lines. The new year started with some good news: Michele Mancin joined the band on drums, so Overcrown got back on stage. The most relevant gig was the second edition of Raise The Hammer Fest at Revolver Club (San Dona' / Treviso) in which the band had the pleasure to support Burning Black again and Elvenking. Due to team troubles "King Lear" took a long time to be ready. Unfortunately the result did not satisfy the band, that's why "King Lear" has never been published. Despite this, Overcrown focused on promotion through social media and playing shows mainly in Northern Italy and winning some contests. In 2012 Michele decided to leave the band, so Overcrown was forced to look for another drummer, once again. The band spent almost a year searching for a drummer, even after many attempts, it seemed impossible to find one. But things changed when Dusan's keyboards were stolen one night. It was the right time to seize the opportunity for him to start playing drums. Initially the band was doubtful because that would have meant not playing live until Dusan practiced enough. In the end Overcrown decided to approve his decision: firstly because they believed in his talent for music and secondly because the team was complete and perfect as it was. In a couple of months the band started playing live again and the mood had never been so good before. Keyboards were substituded by laptop playback and Overcrown decided to make their sound more orchestra-oriented. When the tracks were completely ready, in July 2014 the band hit the studio at the "Flameout Studio" with the producer Enrico "Ukka" Longhin to record their first Promo "Monochrome". Once again, due to time and budget reasons, the band decided to use virtual drum samples; however the songs had positive reviews and feedback from audience and music critics. In November 2014 the band played some gigs abroad: the eastern part of Europe was the perfect destination because of simple booking and thanks to club's owners friendliness. The three performances took place in Serbia, supporting the band Patrias. The year after Overcrown went abroad again, mindful of the success of the first tour playing to Hungary, Croatia and Serbia again for an amount of seven shows supporting Floating Worlds and Patrias. In 2016 the band announced of their first Full Length "Higher" which has been published in November. For the first part of the album promotion, Overcrown supported the touring bands Alogia, Sailing to Nowhere and Stage of Reality (on tour with Angra). Lately they invited the band Patrias to play four gigs in Italy with great success and satisfaction. "Higher" got very positive feedback from critics and audience.
