SEKAJIPO
Hip Hop • Miami, FL
Performing artist, activist, youth mentor, and self proclaimed “revolutionary lover”, Dawyen Sekajipo, commonly known as simply SEKAJIPO, is a musician for the people. Inspired by the likes of Outkast, Damien Marley, Tupac, & Lauryn HIll, the Liberian born, Tampa, Fl raised lyricist has gone from rapper to self taught guitarist to singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist in the span of only a few years with no intentions of slowing down. Relocating to South Florida in 2009, SEKAJIPO has been making waves in the local Miami scene both on and off the mic. In 2011 he released his debut album “Revolution of the Mind-State”, a blend of hip hop reggae fusion that brings faith, politics, and social relevance to a lyrical climax. His most notable singles “Revolutionary Love”, “Livin’ In Amerika”, and “Hard Times”, touch on issues of true love, racism, and compassion for the poor, with the latter receiving 1st place in the 17th annual USA Songwriting Competition for best Hip Hop song and video. His international success as a teaching artist has lead him to countries like Haiti and Colombia, South America, touring for the last 3 years with the artist collective, La Lengua De Mi Barrio (The Language of My Hood), a cultural Hip hop exchange sponsored by Partners of the Americas. Currently SEKAJIPO is the creator and director of “The Art of Lyrical Expression”, an artist development and mentorship program for young artists. In collaboration with Miami based non-profit The Motivational Edge, the program was the recent winner and recipient of the Knight Foundation arts grant and has caught the attention and funding from celebrities like Lil Wayne and Dj Irie of the Miami Heat.
