Storm Glass
Rock • Mumbai, IN
Storm Glass is a five-piece rock act based out of Mumbai. The idea for the band took shape in 2011 when vocalist Rohit Iyer and rhythm guitarist Sameer Siddhaye met for a covers act at their place of work. Fueled by common musical interests, the two began writing and recording original material at Sameer’s home. While it was clear in the first few demos that they had something worthwhile, it was also certain that they needed more elements to complete their sound. In July 2012 the search led to a talented bass player Amresh Kamat and the three clicked almost instantly. Amresh’s jazz, fusion, hard rock influences and a knack for unabashed improvisation added a fresh layer to the vision of a distinct sound. At the end of 2012, old-time friend and ‘master of the whammy bar’ Manish Ajgaonkar moved back from Dubai and joined the band. His intense, yet emotional soloing and eclectic chord harmonies were a perfect fit in the soundscape. The line-up was complete in July 2013 when drummer Ashay Ayare joined the band. His Bonham-esque intensity and acute sense of timing and dynamics fit in like the final piece in a puzzle. Their music is emotional, thought provoking and somewhat narrative with a strong emphasis on simplicity of structure and melody. “We don’t really fit into a strict genre. Call it progressive, alternative or psychedelic rock, but that’s not important - what’s critical is the fact that we try to create an emotional connection with our audience”, says Rohit. The band published its first demo ‘Monsoon (and a gathering storm)’ on Facebook® and Reverbnation® in September 2013. Sameer describes it as, “a sharp, progressive, and introspective piece…it captures a mix of seemingly dark emotions with a simple metaphor and an addictive melody”. “The feedback so far is really encouraging,” Manish remarks, “it is good to see that a lot of people identify with what we are trying to convey”. They are presently working on a string of original compositions to be released in the coming months.
