Blue O’Connell is a Certified Music Practitioner (CMP), guitarist, and composer based in Charlottesville, VA. Growing up Chicago, her childhood was enriched by the cultural diversity around her. As a child, the songs and stories of the American experience captured her imagination and ignited a deep love for music. Since locating to Charlottesville, A in 1989, she quickly became immersed in the local music scene. As a VSA Artist, she leads interactive music sessions at clubhouses, assisted living centers, nursing homes and classrooms. She is also an Artist-in-Resident in Albemarle County Schools. As a Certified Music Practitioner, she is plays therapeutic music at the bedside for hospital patients. In May 2014, she was awarded the Mildred W. Spicer Arts Fund Award created to recognize a local person for outstanding service improving artistic opportunities for people with disabilities. In addition, she also performs her own compositions in a variety of venues.
