I delight in making music of many styles and sharing my passion for music with others. My first real conducting experience was in high school with the 100 voice Concert Choir, singing a piece I had arranged. I became completely infected by the conducting bug. In college, I was afforded the opportunity on multiple occasions to conduct the chorale. Again, I composed and arranged for the group. In my senior year I composed and produced a one-act musical with about 25 cast/chorus members and a pit orchestra of 15 players. My lyricist became my wife 4 months later, and we have been making beautiful music together ever since! I graduated with a Music Ed degree with considerable experience in conducting, leading worship with organ and with voice, arranging, composition and orchestration.
In 1981 I was appointed Minister of Music at Manor Church, near Lancaster, PA. During my tenure there, I finished a Masters Degree from West Chester University. I conducted and performed numerous Masterworks. I also composed and arranged many choral and instrumental works, large and small. However, after 7 years at Manor church I began to feel that I wanted to do more with my music career.
We picked up our little family (now with two children) and moved to Louisville, Kentucky for doctoral studies at Southern Seminary. Five years later with a DMA in conducting in hand we moved to Branson MO, where I began a 23 year teaching career at College of the Ozarks. All during that time I was conducting, singing, playing, writing musicals, recording, arranging, and leading worship. I also served as chair of the Division of Performing and Professional Arts for 6 of those years.
Semi-retirement began in 2016 when we moved back to Lancaster to be near family. It was not long after that I was back in the classroom teaching theory and composition and leading worship. Most recently I have completed a large orchestration project, scoring the musical “Ruth” for Sight and Sound and Lancaster Bible College. In 2019 I was appointed conductor of the Lancaster Chorale. I am still active in singing, playing organ and leading worship. I plan to continue to compose and arrange. I hope you enjoy listening to the recordings posted here of the music that I have either conducted or composed and arranged.
