Buried Voices were born of a cursed blood oath during a full moon deep in the Carolina woods. Their irreversible affliction joined them to run as a pack in relentless pursuit of a cure. Their wolf pelts provided them a means to conjure heavy sounds and screams that represent the lost and lonely children of the night. The music created barely contains them in human form while the ravenous blood lusting werewolves lurk just underneath the surface.
Buried Voices are a Horror Rock/Metal 4 piece from Columbia, South Carolina. The music has been described as “blending grunge, metal, and horror” and “catchy, groove laden hard rock.” The band adheres to a DIY mantra with original music and art work, booking their own shows, designing merch, and staying on top of promoting and social media. The group has filled clubs in the South East and played along side acts such as Filter, Straight Line Stitch, and The Independents.
The members have played in various bands and similar musical circles since high school. In the early days as a group they cultivated a musical chemistry and style hashing out songs by The Beatles, Nirvana, and other metal, grunge, and punk bands. You will hear influence in Buried Voices music from bands such as Alice in Chains, Pantera, Danzig, Nirvana, and White Zombie.
Buried Voices originally formed in 2011 when guitar player Mark Gaddy brought them together for a one off acoustic performance playing cover songs. They quickly realized that they were on to something special. They decided to keep rehearsing and the sound naturally evolved becoming heavier and more refined. They could no longer deny their roots. Buried Voices started writing and rehearsing their first songs in a studio/rehearsal space way out in the Carolina woods.
They soon had enough material to begin recording their first full length album. “Arson For The Heart”. The album was created over 3 long years, scraping together money playing live gigs, selling T-shirts, and working day jobs. The period saw the departure of an original guitarist and bassist, friends, girlfriends, a rehearsal space, sobriety, blood, sweat, and sanity before coming to fruition. “Arson” was recorded, produced, and engineered by Cory Plaugh at Plaugh’s House Recording Studio; an old friend with a legit studio who had proven himself over and over again in the recording game. The group realized during that session that Cory had a solid ear for the kind of music they wanted to make. Within a short time they started networking, and playing live as often as possible.
The writing and recording for Buried Voices second effort, an EP titled, “Relentless Wolves”, proved them more experienced and prepared. The songs began with a mission to depart from the first album with more poignant horror themes. All of the members share a mutual interest in horror culture and decided to venture further in that direction with the new material. The title and theme of “Relentless Wolves” is an homage to the trials of existing in the current musical landscape as a “heavy” rock band. Conceptually, the “wolves” are in relentless pursuit to kill, eat, and clean the bands carcass before leaving it to scavengers to pick clean. Another meaning is that Buried Voices are the “wolves” in relentless pursuit to exist, fight, scrape by and make uncompromising music. “Relentless Wolves” shows a wide range of what Buried Voices are capable of as a band containing some of the heaviest and most melodic songs in the arsenal. It also includes their take of a country classic by Keith Whitley. The EP was once again Recorded, Produced, Engineered, Mixed, Mastered, by Cory Plaugh @ Plaugh’s House Recording Studio. Art work by our singer Brian Owen.
Buried Voices are a pack of beer drinking were-wolves who celebrate horror, music, full moons, and their own blood curse. Always forging on, planning the next show, song, T-shirt, album, etc. They live to put on a great show, hone their craft, connect with people, and put out music that they love!
