My story: on summer break from med school, signed with Charisma Records in 1978 and a second film/record contract followed with RSO. In a parallel career as a folk-singer and song-writer, headlined The Cambridge Folk Festival in England at the top of a bill including Don McLean and Richie Havens. It was an honor to be in Billboard Issue, July 22, 1978 when Charisma Records announced I was the first American act to be signed by Tony Stratton-Smith/Charisma. In between my studies and medical rotations, I managed to write and record some 25 songs, and in the summers of 1978 and ’79 played at The Cambridge Folk Festival, UK. However, an event while in my final year of medical school changed the course of my life: My musical hero, John Lennon, was killed in NYC on December 8, 1980. As I rushed over to the Dakota, I realized I was done with entertainment and decided to concentrate on surgery. I didn’t stop playing or listening to music, but it became just a passion hobby. Surgery, research and education are my passion and I have always loved the intersection of medicine and music. Also current Chief Editor of "Schwartz's Principles of Surgery". RIP John Lennon December 8, 1980. Lennon posthumous received the Peace Abbey Award for his music and anti-war protests which helped to bring to the attention of an entire generation the ideals of peace and love.
