David Grunstra

Local acoustic duo Wire and Wood split their sets equally between breezy good-vibe songs, twangy classic rock renditions, and cleverly attractive and funky protest tunes. Singer/guitarists Dave Grunstra and Erin Johns (formerly of Bring Out Your Dead, Tung & Groov) each have a long history as professional musicians in the Lowcountry. In addition to other solo and band projects, they’ve been collaborating as Wire and Wood in Charleston for more than 11 years. As a male/female duo, their style and chemistry inevitably resembles some of the classic guy/girl acts from the folk/rock world, but with a nicely textured double-guitar foundation and earthy harmonies, there’s much more Buckingham and Nicks happening in Wire and Wood’s musical performance than Peaches and Herb or Captain and Tennille. Wire and Wood perform at the Mt. Pleasant Juanita Greenberg’s at 10 p.m. on Friday. They head to Johns Island on Sunday for a show from 4-7 p.m. at the Stono Breeze Waterfront Bar. Grunstra also performs every Monday evening when he hosts an open mic at the Crab Shack on Folly Beach. — T. Ballard Lesemann
