Defining Human
Metal • houston, TX
Quickly becoming one of south Texas’s most unheard-of metal-core heavyweights, Defining Human blew minds clear across the city of Houston with their early 2012 self-titled full-length release labeled, “…chaotically beautiful” by Voice of the Void Promotions and “…simply defining the modern metal sound” by guitar legend Rusty Cooley. With 3 years of the non-stop annihilating of regional tours and performances, sharing the stage with countless underground metal monoliths (Volumes, The Browning, Wind of Plague, Oceano, The Destro, Eyes Set to Kill, Sky Eats Airplane) and a full endorsements by Madison Amplifiers and Ddrum, local giants A Tragedy Lost (now Defining Human) grew unstoppable momentum. Numerous member changes, tour-vehicle mishaps and material reconstruction, the band’s remaining steadfast members were intent on a new platform in which to record the album, setting forth a fresh direction and energy.
Reborn hungrier and ever relentless, drummer Matt Smith (ex-Outworld), vocalist Wayne Accord, guitarists Zakk Jones and Curt Smith, and bassist Shawn Bartlett, added the final polish to their brutal monster. Recorded and mixed by Matt Smith of the band at his studio, it could only then be unleashed after Taylor Larson (worked with Periphery/ Sky Eats Airplane) of Oceanic Studios Bethesda had applied his expert mastering. Thus, “Defining Human” was forged, boasting the shearing growl of 8-string guitars and chest-thumping 6-string bass, masterful percussion and fear inducing vocals, is performed surgically and awe-inspiringly. Defining Human continue to impress with their all-encompassing metal style of combining melodic riffs and melodies, shredding solos, and brutal complex breakdowns.
