Dropa (also Dropas, Drok-pa or Dzopa, Chinese) is the name given to what are said by some to be a race of dwarf-like extraterrestrials that landed near the China-Tibet border approximately twelve thousand years ago.
In 2007 Micah Tamblyn decided to use the name “Dropa” for his first solo indietronic, electro synth pop venture. “For the past 10 years I’ve been fascinated by all the conspiracies and manipulation of history and press.” says Micah. “The Idea of using the name Dropa is to have people question what they know and what they think is true”.
Dropa has played many shows here in Portland Oregon the past few years including Doug Fir, Crystal Ballroom, Someday and others… Kink Fm featured two tracks off of their debut album “A well orchestrated plan” released in 2009. Dropa has just released their second album“Glass House”. This sophomore album moves towards a more directed musical approach, bringing a different element of musical style and feel than the previous record. “I hope to make people think when they hear the music, at the same time, I want them to escape and dance.” says Micah. Dropa’s influences ranging from David Bowie, Pink Floyd, New Order, The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins, Metronomy, Radiohead, Hum, Four Tet, Junior Boys, M83 and many more. Micah utilizes a plethora of thick textural sounds, beats, melodies and pop smarts to meticulously craft the songs.
The band is continuing to develop their live sound and their studio recordings. Micah writes, plays, records, mixes, and masters all the tracks in his home studio. “I find it helps to have complete control creating what I hear in my head.” says Micah. Dropa’s drummer, the talented Matthew Higgins helps to develop the strong backbone of all the songs on this new album. Dropa is looking forward to their new album Glass House being released and the evolution of music.
