Reggae • London, ENG, UK
Singer/Song Writer, Recording/Performing Artist. I started my musical journey from the young age of 5 in church and school choir, as well as dance, acrobats and sports. In the early 1970's I was approached by Edward O'Sullivan Lee aka Bunny (Striker) Lee also known as the Gorgon a well known music producer and legend who produced artists like Slim Smith, Derrick Morgan, Stranger Cole to name a few and from Jamaica, on a visit to my home he listened too liked my voice. He asked to take me Easy Street Studio East London. This sounded like a great opportunity to be recorded in a big known studio which at the time most of the legends were using. I would have loved my sisters to also join me making an all girl group. Unfortunately they were not interested to follow the same path and I was much to nervous to say yes. I decided to take my singing more serious when I was asked to join a group in early 1981. ''performed a few gigs then decided to change directions as the group was having disputes. I auditioned into a group which was based in South East London 1984 -5. The band was great ready for shows so the band organised gigs for us to play. We were invited to show off our musical skills at The Royal Victoria Park, Finsbury Park, North London, Sunsplash in the Park. What a fantastic show in front of thousands of people the band played well. Unfortunately arguments with the band leader and respective organizers got serious because the band leader did not sing his two songs as planned because of time as he wanted to end our showcase. Other bands were lined up on schedule. At that point I decided enough with the continued arguments time to leave the band and become a solo artist. The best move to have made taken my drummer and base player so again the band split up. I started writing my songs whilst getting together with some of my musicians friends for Friday night jams. I was then introduced by a friend to someone who became a great asset to my journey becoming my manager. She in turn introduced me to an events manager called Rapheal of Fine Cut Promotions. At this point I was feeling much more confident within in my solo career I was then introduced to Tony Lee a great promoter who spotted talents representing colleges around London . I was entered into a competition by Tony which took place at the Night Moves Club, Shoreditch, London venue organised by Rapheal of Fine Cut Promotions. A great night was had by all especially as I won the eighth heat. Shocked to say the least and disbelief I had actually won. The finals took place at the Walthamstow Town Hall, East London. We played with a live band who had to learn all the finalist songs they played very well considering the short time they had to learn them all. I never won the finals but had a great night with my family, friends and fans giving me great encouragements. The only way was up 1986-7 I was asked whether I would like to perform at a fashion show The Cyrstals Banqueting Suit London. My manager playing a great part in helping with the events manager Rapheal who also became a great friend giving me more control over where I performed. My next show would be a the sophisticated Limelight Club London. Another fantastic night was had by all after which I decided to take some time out having a young family and much needed time for self and work. I still found a little time to keep writing and the odd weekend jam. 1994 I met a singer call Jah Dave who introduced me to Room in the Sky Studio and a producer called Lewis Murtugh. I sang an adapted tune "Blue Moon" released on 12" Vinyl on Jah Dave's Ishence record label . Next release was in 1996-7 another adapted tune called "Good night My Love" again on 12"vinyl released on the same label. As I was still writing and recording at room in the sky studio the producer Lewis said he was thinking of releasing an all stars vinyl 12" Masters of Reggae Vol 1 with some legends who often use the same studio such as Gregory Isaac, Winston Reedy to name a few and many others, he would like one of my tune on the same. Great news for myself. Going by the name at the time Sista Levi my tune "Hurting me bad" which I was recording when I got a shock surprise as Gregory walked in the studio that night giving me good feedback that he liked the song and can he have a cut of the rhythm too. I started working on an album but had to take a sabbatical break regarding work and family. Not recording or going to the studio for a while I was pleasantly surprised whilst out one day and was approachied by Lewis whom I had not seen for a long while he asked me to come back to the studio to start on a fresh album. This where proper solo career really started to pick up. I met and worked with many known artists during that time sometime asked to harmonize on their songs as well as still working on my own album. During which time I connected with a producer from Ladbrook Grove who was connected to Hammersmith and Fulham Council often putting on events for talents in the surrounding area. He decided he wanted me to head his show case and would release my album on his label. Budgy Entertainment Enterprise label. Mixed and mastered at Jet Star Studio Harlsden, London. Album named Sista Levi meets Leroy Smart. Double album.
