Fiona Cuthill & Stevie Lawrence
Celtic • Glasgow, UK
Fiona and Stevies musical partnership blossomed from a shared love of traditional and rock music. They are currently members of Scottish based band “Rallion” and “The Wendy Weatherby Band” but have also recorded and performed together with various ensembles from the Early Music of “Whirligig”, the modern Celtic sound of “Canterach”, the progressive rock of “Abel Ganz” and the traditional folk repertoire of “Real Time”. They have been fortunate enough to play in many festivals and gigs all over Europe. Highlights include A Boxful of Treasures Folk Festival in Forli, Italy, The Drangedal Folk Festival in Norway, supporting John Renbourne and Robin Williamson at Edinburgh Folk Club, the Danny Kyle Open Stage at Celtic Connections 2010, opening for the Red Hot Chilli Pipers on their Scottish Tour in 2009 and appearing at the Scots Fiddle Festival in 2011. Fiona and Stevie’s first CD “A Cruel Kindness” was released on the Fellside label in September 2011. They describe their music as contemporary self-penned tunes on fiddle and guitar/bouzouki with a touch of rock attitude thrown in for good measure. “This must be one of the finest releases this year”. The Living Tradition. “A Cruel Kindness is an outstanding debut that shines the spotlight on Cuthill and Lawrence’s abounding musical talent”. Lori Gordon. “A Cruel Kindness” arrives as an impressive debut by a remarkable duo”. Northern Roots “This is a lively album, full of time and key changes, sharp and sassy and damn fine entertainment”. FATEA Magazine.
