Gerard Brooks
Christian/Gospel • Detroit, MI
Gerard is no stranger to Gospel Music. He has been singing Gospel music since the age of seven. His first time singing was with the Junior Choir at his home church Second Timothy Missionary Baptist Church and the song was called “Jesus Christ is the Way.” Horrified, terrified, and petrified he sang the song because his mother threatened him during choir rehearsal. She saw something in him that he didn’t see in himself. As a child, Gerard was exposed to all different Genres of music mainly influenced by his mother who was also a singer and was very instrumental in leading Gerard to the Lord and being an example before him. However, it wasn’t until the age of 14 that he discovered his love for Gospel music. Gerard sung about God since he was a child but did not have a relationship with him. One day as he was singing the power of God came in and changed his life and his song. He now knew first hand what it was like to have an encounter with Christ by not just singing about him, but accepting Christ as Lord and Savior and now having a real relationship with Christ. Gerard was very involved in High School activities especially if it involved singing. He performed with the Mumford High School choir, school plays and became class speaker of the Graduating Class of 1993. While in high school, Gerard and three other young men formed a gospel group called “Inner-mission.” They sang all over the metro Detroit Area and gain exposure from many named artist in the industry. After graduation Gerard received a scholarship from Wayne State University majoring in Theatre. In his pursuit of one day becoming an actor Gerard attended college for a year and in 1995 began traveling with the play “Perilous Times.” During his travels, God began dealing with Gerard in regards to preaching the Gospel. Shortly thereafter Gerard left the play and began to seek direction from God for his life. In 1997 Gerard answered the call to begin preaching the Gospel. That same year he married his wife of 16 years, Angelee Brooks, whom he’s known most of his life and to this God ordained union have five beautiful children. In 2003 Gerard was ordained as a Gospel Minister at his home church Second Timothy Baptist Church. He also served as the Worship Leader, Youth Pastor, and Minister of Music under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Wilbert Humphries. Gerard has a passion for worship and edifying the people of God through preaching and singing. He is an anointed psalmist and songwriter. He has a difficult time saying no to anyone who ask him to sing, preach or MC. His Pastor, Rev. Dr. Wilbert Humphries says this: “Gerard loves to sing, in fact I think sometimes he would rather sing than eat!” In 2008 Gerard entered and won the Detroit Singing Star Competition; won $1000.00 and an opportunity to sing the Star Spangled Banner at a Major League Tigers Game before tens of thousands of fans at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan. The song he chose to sing in the competition was 'Never Would Have made It!' Since winning the competition, He has sang at Comerica Park for the Detroit Tigers in 2009 and 2011.
