Greg Pitts is undoubtedly a renaissance man. The Ohio native started life out at a disadvantage. Being born to a single mother, he did not meet his father until he was 12 years old. As a young teen, he exhibited artistic capabilities, but the lack of understanding from his family lead to discouragement. However, his vision would not be extinguished. His journey into the arts began at the age of 14 when he purchased his first camera on lay-away from a camera store in his hometown of Lima, Ohio with funds he earned from his newspaper route. After high school, he entered the US Army as a food service specialist receiving the good conduct medal and an honorable discharge after his service commitment was fulfilled. With his career in photography spanning over 33 years, cataloging his extensive exhibitions and photographic experience would be an impossible feat, but notable milestones in his photographic career include photos of celebrities including the late Teena Marie, Tom Joyner, Mary J. Blige, Robin Thicke and Brian White. He was privileged to take photographs of presidential candidate Mitt Romney and recently was involved in a mission trip to the island nation of Cuba, after which he decided to retire from active photography. While in Nashville, TN, he was listed with the Talent Trek Agency and was in many music videos, commercials, print ads and cast as extras in feature films “The Last Castle” and “The Green Mile” to name a few. In efforts to further pursue his career, Greg enrolled in an extensive ‘actors boot camp’ taught by the great Bill Duke at the American Black Film Festival in 2003. He moved to South Florida in 2004 and was featured as a US Marshal in “Transporter 2” the following year. Mr. Pitts is also an award winning filmmaker, having directed and produced five award winning short films including one of his films, “Eight-Thirty” as an official selection at the EgoFest Film Festival in Brainerd, MN. That same short film won “Best of the Fest-Indie” at the IndieGathering Film Festival in Cleveland, OH. and “Best Short-Drama” at the Dickson Independent Film Festival in Dickson, TN. It was also an official selection in the Idaho Panhandle Independent Film Festival as well as the Blue November Film Festival in Tulsa, OK. Another one of his films “All Rapped Up” screened at the Miami Underground Film Festival in March 2007 and “Da Man” a rap horror music video won runner up at the 2007 IndieGathering Film Festival. His film, “Karma the Movie” executive produced by his son Lamar Pitts, has screened at Cinema Paridiso in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and is an official selection at both the North West Ohio Independent Film Festival and the Langston Hughes African American Film Festival in Seattle, Washington. He returns to the Langston Hughes African American Film Festival for 2013 with his film "The Art of Sound"- an avant-garde short film that incorporates the visual with the auditory in the expression of art. His film "The Adventures of Ed and Rudy", a short comedy, premiered at Megacon 2013 in Orlando Florida His abstract art, which is a salient feature of the short films “Karma the Movie”, and "The Art of Sound" has garnered a tremendous amount of attention in recent years. Clients have purchased his artwork internationally and he was a successful exhibitor in 2010 and 2011 during Miami Art Basel. His artwork can be found in the Netherlands, South Africa, Vienna Austria as well as various cities throughout the United States and Canada. He has exhibited with great artists such as Romero Britto and Purvis Young. Celebrity clients include the renowned shoe designer Donald Pliner and co-host of “The View” Sherri Shepherd. He has been featured in several Internet magazines, articles and blogs. His “functional art” (artistically re-created furniture from recycled items) has been photographed and featured in many publications, including the Miami Herald, and many others. His recycled art pieces are highly sought after and he has been dubbed an environmentalist due to his creative use of discarded and recycled objects. His art can be seen in several galleries in South Florida. Mr. Pitts continues to enjoy expressing himself artistically in various media.
