R&B is a genre that has changed dramatically throughout the years and many believe that it has been watered down to the point to where it is now very similar to pop music. However, there is a talented artist known as Jay B, who possesses a smooth style that will put you in the mind of R&B in its glory days. Jay B was raised on the Southside of Minneapolis in a neighborhood known as Phelps Park, where he developed many of his bad habits that eventually served as fuel to accomplish his goals. He witnessed many things from gang violence to drugs and even stints of incarceration. "That lifestyle is over now. I’m on to bigger and better things now," he said. Jay B has been a music lover for many years. Constant compliments about his voice spawned him to embark upon a new career. Those opinions were validated and he gained tremendous self-respect after winning several local talent shows and consistently singing in the local Karaoke bar. In 2009, he started selling his own music and realized that at that moment, there was no turning back from his newly found love. His rich lyrics and smooth sound is soothing to the ears and can be described as a mixture of old school/90's R&B. His musical influences include an array of artist's spanning from the 1960's-1990's. Much of his skills were honed by constantly studying decades of extraordinary musicians, which has helped him to develop into a well-rounded artist. The seasoned vocalist is known for delivering outstanding live performances and has performed in: Minnesota, Illinois, and Wisconsin. He is heavily regarded for smooth records such as: “Say You Wanna Go”, “It’s All about You”, and “Only if You Want it”. Jay B is currently recording his second LP and is planning to expand his bookings to other markets in the near future.
