Jo-Ann Barton
Pop • Clifton, NJ
Jo-Ann Barton's new release: Sticks and Stones: BIO: Jo-Ann Barton, a singer/songwriter and musician for the past 25 years, her last CD, POP and CIRCUMSTANCES spawned a number one hit song at College radio stations throughout the United States, including Hawaii back in 2001. The song, WEEKEND still stands the test of time. However, an illness would prevent Jo-Ann from touring the college scene and not performing for 11 years. She did however, release a 9-11-01 tribute song in 2001 entitled, ORDINARY DAY. The song was played on the second anniversary at the World Trade Center. Although not performing during this period, the seasoned songwriter would have this incredible idea to write songs for anyone who is or has been bullied. The project would become her fifth CD released: STICKS and STONES. While in the process of having children with her partner, Jo-Ann was hesitant because she didn't want her children to be picked on or bullied for having gay parents. The songs on STICKS and STONES are all uplifting, with catchy hooks and compelling lyrics letting people know, especially the younger crowd; that things will be okay and that things do get better eventually in time. Initially written for children with gay parents but the epidemic of bullying and kid's committing suicide overpowered Jo-Ann and she felt that there was something she could do through her music. The songs are all fron her heart and basically what Jo-Ann wants to say to her own two children and all others out there that are going through a tough time. Thankfully, Jo-Ann's children are fine but the CD is still for them and everyone else that is feeling down. The project meant so much to Jo-Ann that she would reach out to organizations that felt the same way as she did. Whithout even hearing the CD, the following orginizations agreed to be on the CD to inform others of their information via their websites. The orginizations are: itgetsbetter.org, COLAGE, The Suicide Prevention Lifeline, The Trevor Project and GLAAD.
