John Adams, born December 30, 1958, in Holland, sang in the boys’ choir where his father was the conductor. At 10, his cousin, Peter, gave him a guitar and after 6 months, Peter was so impressed with John’s performance that he sold him the guitar. Ever since, guitars have been with John Adams and music and lyrics have traveled right along with them. Late in 1972, John Denver became a big hit in Europe with his hit; Take Me Home, Country Roads. John Adams taste in music changed instantly and he became dedicated to John Denver’s music. He bought all Denver’s available albums and music books and started to sing “with” John Denver, learning his guitar style. Loving and following the music, Adams had the chance to attend many of Denver’s European concerts until John Denver’s untimely death on October 12, 1997. John was not only inspired by Denver’s music, but also by his work as an environmentalist, humanitarian, and his life-long promotion of peace. Following John’s example, Adams became an Ambassador for Ronald McDonald Children Homes and worked 7 years as a teacher in schools for UNICEF, helping to increase awareness among children about other children “outside their own world”. In 1988 John Adams won a national song contest in Holland with John Denver’s song; Leaving On A Jet Plane, which opened up the opportunity for him to perform John Denver’s music all over Europe, in addition to Africa and Beijing, China. He also had the good fortune of performing with John Denver on a TV-special and they sang; Whispering Jesse together. The song had not yet been released in the States and Denver was amazed that Adams already knew the song. John and John met about 13 times after that. Among the many stories they shared together, the most memorable ones were about life, their love for acoustic guitars, and their performances in China. Since John Denver’s passing, John Adams moved to the United States and has committed himself to keeping Denver's music alive.
