Kathy Bell
Country • Sheridan, IN
Hey! Folk’s for those of you who don’t know me my name is Kathy Bell started playing piano and singing in church at a very early age my grandpa was a well-known minister in our small town for 57 years.
The Biggest thing I ever did as a youngster of 12 years was accompany my dad, Joe Bell Jr and mother Amy Bell along with a well-known fiddler in the area Betty Linden Mayer of Frankfort, Indiana on stage in Renfro Valley, Kentucky.
Upon growing into my teen years I learned to appreciate and love all styles of music... Pop, Disco, but Country, Gospel and Bluegrass my favorite.
As I went into my adult years I had a huge desire to play piano and sing with a band. It was due to that desire I joined with the Parson Family Band and I played keys and sung harmony travelling to different churches and also on the Belle of Louisville for a performance alongside of some big Gospel artists such as Cappie, Sonshiner Quartet, The Perry Sisters, Etc.
I then played keys and sung harmony with Spiritual Praise, Wild Country, Dixie Highway for a couple of years playing for retirees who came in for meal music and dancing. In addition, assisted “Relixs.. on keys and singing both harmony and solo for a benefit at American Legion in Indianapolis, IN.
It was during the time in 2002 that I wrote my first song "Oh What A friend." I wrote this song at a very difficult and trying time in my life and found comfort in writing.
I didn't realize I was a Songwriter until this current time.
I was encouraged to compete in P3 Karaoke Competition and remembered that every time, I made it to the next round I was so surprised. It was my peers who believed "I could make it!" I remember actually crying tears when I made it through several rounds.
In addition, I began gaining experience and confidence from different competitions. I did fairly well and learned that singing and writing was my passion. I began having lots of fun and "just being me...and became someone different on stage."
Costumes become a portion of my scorecard my fans seemed to really enjoy my new found courage. I then became a performer without even realizing now I have tons of fans who are now my friends they all want me to succeed? It was those friends who truly believed in me...and pushed me to perseverance! Awesome experience! I took valuable lessons and the biggest being I had to do my best. Not so much as to win but just to stay in the competition. I learned valuable lessons as a singer/ musician at that time. My success is attitude, showmanship, practice and so much more. You have to work hard be yourself and do you’re very best. If you do that you are a winner in every way!
Since this all as happened I have performed at Dave & Buster's at Opry Mills Mall, Nashville, TN across from the Grand Ole Opry on October 2nd, which was the 10th Annual Songwriters Fest for 2012, lessons I learned there were that the songwriters and my friends took time out of their busy schedules to come support Me.! Amazing!
I have given several performances now in Nashville, at the Independent Songwriter's Festival on Music Row the most recent October 4-7th. Fantastic experience!
I was very honored and humble to not only sing my own songs at the 9th Annual Songwriters Fest in 2011 but to perform two songs by Ruthie Steele's "Think Like A Man," and "Love Is Not Always A Rose," plus it was an honor singing Cornelius "Popcorn" Robertson’s, Founder of the Independent Songwriter's Fest, "Cupid," and "Life's A Game."
Most recently enjoy being an entertainer..As now being a DJ & Karaoke Host..I have learned to read my audience..How can I make my show fun for everyone..so enjoy music and writing of all genres ..it is my life and has helped me to get through some very very hard times.
