Influences from 70`s New York underground to old theatre music, americana, reggae, punk and experimental genres collide in her music. In 2012 after her solo album release, Katja started a duo with drummer Perttu Lindberg and trio Katja and Them Aint Saints with bass player Miika Kyyrö was born in summer 2014. Their live performances are a unique mix of art music and energetic straightforward rock. "My debut solo album Safe European Home was a one person effort. I wrote and arranged the songs, played and recorded the instruments (exeption in 2 songs in co-operation), and artistically produced the album. Final mixing was done in Yellow House Studio in Hämeenlinna, Finland. After exploring the wonderful possibilities of working alone with computer and instruments I continued the journey by making recordings with Perttu and and later on with our trio. Our first single/video Yön sydämeen/To the Heart of NIght is a dark, minimalistic research on the mystery of life and seeking. The EP (2016) is more in roots style. 2017 seems to be a year of starting something new and letting go the old and this will definitely have an impact on my musical journey. I have been living in Stockholm, Sweden and in Naples, Italy and have enjoyd lots of different musical influences. Song lyrics are very important to me, and I have always adored musicians/poets Bob Dylan, Lou Reed and Patti Smith. The works of Marguerite Duras, William Blake, Eric Satie and Captain Beefheart never cease to inspire me. I love the early black roots music, Robert Johnson, Bessie Smith, Scott Joplin... In my artistic work I love to experiment with sounds and melodies, putting myself under some kind of spell that is a very visual and physical experience. My lyrics express what's on my mind and feelings in different moments of time. I want to work for a more righteous world, as well as explore the landscapes of feelings and human mind and what is behind the temporal world, weaved by that mind. Imagination is of divine, like Blake´s visions. Besides my own personal work, I play keyboards in the Still Water Family since 2009. It is a 60-70´s style rock band, my magical musical family of beautiful and warm persons and musicians with different backgrounds. PAND, performing artists´ peace organization and Sävy-klubi with my fellow female singer-songwriters are important actions of sharing for me. A good tune can emerge through different kinds of writing processes. Sometimes you got to "just plug in your damn guitar and make some noise!!" as Paul Westerberg puts it. "Debyyttialbumini Safe European Home oli työ jonka tein yhtenä naisena, soitin ja äänitin, sävelsin, sanoitin, sovitin ja tuotin taiteellisesti lähes kokonaan. Levy miksattiin Yellow House-studiolla Hämeenlinnassa. Tietokoneen mahdollisuuksien tutkiminen yksin oli antoisa ja ihmeellinen matka, jonka jälkeen jatkoin Pertun kanssa duona ja sittemmin Them Aint Saintsin kera. Yön sydämeen-single/video on minimalistinen tutkielma etsinnästä ja elämän mysteeristä. EP on rootsimpaa tyyliä. 2017 on minulle vuosi jolloin on aika jättää taakse vanhaa ja valmistautua uuteen. Ihailen Bob Dylanin, Lou Reedin ja Patti Smithin kaltaisia ajattelevia ja tinkimättömiä taiteilijoita. Marguerite Durasin, William Blaken ja Eric Satien työt ovat ehtymättömiä innoituksen lähteitäni. Välillä haluan palata juurille ja paneutua Robert Johnsonin, Bessie Smithin ja Scott Joplinin nerouteen. Rakastan yli kaiken erilaisia melodia- ja saundikokeiluja jotka resonoivat läpi kehon ja visuaalisena kokemuksena. Teksteissäni käsittelen asioita jotka liikuttavat minua tietyllä hetkellä. Haluan kamppailla paremman maailman puolesta ja yhtä lailla olen kiinnostunut ihmismielen ja tunteiden maisemista ja siitä mitä tämän mielemme kutoman ajallisen maailman takana on. Otan ilolla vastaan kaiken mitä jumalainen mielikuvitus tarjoaa. Oman henkilökohtaisen hommani lisäksi soitan the Still Water Familyssa koskettimia. Se on 60-70-luku-vaikutteinen rockbändi, viiden upean ja lämpimän persoonan ja muusikon muodostama musiikillinen perheeni vuodesta 2009. Musiikki on aina tavalla tai toisella inhimillisen kokemuksen jakamista. -Biisin synnyssä on tiettyä magiikkaa, aiheet alkavat kutsua itseään, melodiat muodostua ja työ voi alkaa. Hyvä biisi voi syntyä monella tavalla. Välillä se tapahtuu Paul Westerbergin periaatteella: "just plug in your damn guitar and make some noise!"
