Lena Williams formerly, Charlena Coffey was born June 15, 1984 in Charleston, South Carolina to Charles and Maria Coffey. Her father loved music and was a DJ so she was already heavily influenced by music at a very young age. Her parents said she loved to sing before she could even talk and that when she was a baby they would play music in the car and she would make sounds as if she was trying to sing to the music. They knew that she would one day be a singer. Lena’s father was in the Air Force so her parents moved to the Philippines when she was four years old and then they relocated to New Jersey when she was six years old. Her mother kept her very active in the church choirs at a very young age. She often performed solo in the choir. Seeing the looks on the audience members face when she would sing really did something to her. It was a rush just like a drug. It made her feel so good and took her places that she never wanted to leave. Finally, when she turned 10 years old she started writing songs. She formed a group called the Dope Girls and they performed locally. When she was just 12 she opened up for the comedian, Tracy Morgan at a comedy show held on McGuire AFB. Once she turned 14 years old she continued to write music but became very rebellious towards her parents. She was getting in trouble a lot in school and was allowing her self to become distracted . She graduated from high school in 2002 and did not know what she wanted to do with her life other than music. She attempted to go to school to become a certified Medical Administration Assistant but did not finish. She knew that she did not want to work for anyone forever because she believed God blessed with her with a talent and that she would one day make it. She begin working with a local producer when she was 20 years old and started to record the songs that she had wrote but never did anything with her music. She met her boyfriend, now ex husband, Robert Williams when she was just 21 years old. She was so caught up in love with him that she no longer focused on music. They decided they wanted to move away from New Jersey and relocate to Maryland. Once settling down in Maryland everything seemed to be going perfect. Lena had the man she loved and she landed a great paying job with excellent benefits that she stayed at for over six years . They never had to want for anything because all of their necessities were met but she was still unhappy. She knew that music was her passion and she knew that there was more to her life than just working full time for bosses. She fell into a deep depression at times because she felt like her life was just passing her by and that she had done nothing to pursue her dream and she was just existing not living in purpose. In 2013 her job promoted her for the second time with an opportunity to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia. She was ecstatic about moving to the area because Georgia has had lots of successful artists and she felt she could be the next big thing. A year after relocating the company she worked for closed down and she was laid off. Instead of her stressing or being upset she looked at this sudden change as a positive opportunity. She believed that this was a sign from God to go after what she had always dreamed about. Lena is currently networking and working on music so you can expect lots of things from her very soon.
