Michael Payne

Vocalist for Swerve for the Girl, Scar After Scar, 13mm

Inspired by David Grohl and unable to cobble together a functioning band, in 2005 I formed Swerve for the Girl. The name is from Seinfeld -- "The Merv Griffin Show" -- George has destroyed another relationship by engaging in a seemingly unprovoked vehicular attack on a flock of pigeons. The attack was unintentional, the pigeons broke the "deal" (they get out of our way and we overlook the the statue defecation), but George's girl still thinks he's a monster. George decides the only way he can save this relationship is by showing his compassion for pigeons. As they are driving down the street he suddenly swerves to spare a lone pigeon. As he gloats his girlfriend is horrified. She didn't see the pigeon, she saw him swerve directly at, and run over, a squirrel. George spends the rest of the show searching out specialists to heal the squirrel in a vain effort to win her over again. I still swerve for the girl every day. But, I also get to front the greatest band ever -- Scar After Scar.
