Learning lightness
Running from the hole in my heart, managing not to fall in, I write from a place you may not always wish to go. Come with me anyway. Green glimmering shoots of happiness crop up in unexpected places, and if they don't, there is good reason. Janis Ian, Lui Collins, Joni Mitchell and Tracy Chapman are just some of my heroes. Nurtured musically in New London, Conn., and Pawtucket, R.I., I have moved again but am still a New Englander. I am now in living in Vermont and work in Ludlow and Windsor County. As the poet and my teacher William Meredith said, what we must learn is how to walk light.
