OLIO
Rock • Bellingham, WA
OLIO is a dedicated group of musicians who play a variety of styles of music including folk, pop, reggae, blues, southern country, alternative rock and classic rock and roll. Influences include the Black Keys, Ween, Led Zeppelin, Simon and Garfunkel, and the Beatles. Though the band is fairly new to the music scene, they are not shy when it comes to the stage. In fact all of the band members have performed in a variety of bands before (including jazz bands, folk bands and indie rock bands). Thayne Yazzie and Sam Chue (founding members of the band) first played together in high school at a memorial assembly for a fellow family member's loss across seas in the Iraq war. Unknown to each other, both Thayne and Sam wrote a song after watching a documentary about the family's son called The Corporal's Diary. Because both songs just so happened to be in the same key and of a very similar style, they fused the songs together and performed at the high school assembly. Since then Sam and Thayne have been playing open mics, gigs and a variety of concerts throughout town. The band OLIO has played at Boundary Bay, Three Trees Coffee House, Vagabond Studios, The Cobra Lounge, Fairhaven Outback, various parties and weddings. OLIO is also winner of the 2011 WCC Battle of the Bands.
