Palaceburn
Rock • Philadelphia, PA
It was July 6th, 2016 when Philando Castile was murdered. What happened next seemed to be the regular cycle of events. Word began to spread through the public. When Palaceburn lead singer Meredith Bell opened her Twitter feed – she read a mixture of frustration, anger, and sadness. “I was so moved by what people were saying….hundreds of people who looked like me expressing their frustrations. It all resonated…and I felt compelled to write.” Bell sat down with her fellow bandmates to have that discussion. As a Black woman fronting a hard rock band, she wanted to make sure they were all on the same page. “They were nothing but supportive. They knew this was important to me – and to them, as well.” Bandmates Darren Makins, Michael Marks, J Miglionico, and Bon Soma make up the rest of the Philadelphia-based group. That’s how “And You Wonder Why They Kneel”, one of Palaceburn’s newest singles, came to be. Combined with Bell’s melodic vocals and the ferocious, dynamic riffs and swells of the band, “Kneel” is a musical warcry, demanding change amidst a racially divisive climate. The three-peat of singles, “Kneel”, “Stars Align” and “The Empress” –are a result of Palaceburn being forced inside to create during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their “quarantine sessions” sparked a wave of creativity. Pulling influences from bands such as Pantera, Evanescence, Godsmack, Metallica, Sevendust and Tool, these songs are just a glimpse into the Palaceburn sound.
