Radio La Chusma
Reggae • El Paso, TX
Amidst all the recent negative attention on the border and its people, Radio La Chusma brings a unique perspective, breaking down the barriers of age, race, language and religion to UNITE ALL PEOPLE. Founded in 2002, their original style of mixing Roots Reggae and Ska with Cumbia Latino, or as the band has coined “Pachuco Reggae", is a cornerstone of the growing Border Sound scene. Radio La Chusma has been internationally recognized for their 2012 immigration anthem, Cruzando Fronteras" for giving a voice to the voiceless who sacrifice for their American Dream. When asked what Chusma means, founder Ernesto Tinajero explains, " Chusma is the riff-raff, the unwanted, marginalized people that we as a society do not value, the natives of these lands, the Indigenous side in all of us. Known for their passionate performances, RLC continues to unite fans from all walks of life on our Mother Earth. RLC was recently featured in NEW MEXICO MAGAZINE's 2019 Music Issue, has been recognized for "Cruzando Fronteras" by the International Music Awards, and have taken home seven Whats Up Best Original Band awards, and four "Best Original Band" from THE CITY MAGAZINE. Their contributions to the Chicano Reggae Scene have been featured in a handful of books discussing cultural music: Transnational Encounters: Music and Performance at the U.S.-Mexico ... https://books.google.com/books?isbn=0199876118 Drug War Zone: Frontline Dispatches from the Streets of El Paso and ... https://books.google.com/books?isbn=0292782799 Rastafari and the Arts: An Introduction  https://books.google.com/books?isbn=1134624964 The Beat  - Volume 26, Issues 2-4 - Page 37 The band has also made their movie debut with a cameo in the feature film "Unlimited".
