Rick has been playing guitar since 1986. In the early 1990s, he and John Biggs toured OSU campus bars while still in high school and were on the radio promoting them. After school, the music quieted down, but in 2002, Rick released his first solo album, "The Second Ten". Full of original music, this was largely an experimental project, and he only had an acoustic and 12-string guitar and 4-track to work with. Most songs were instrumentals. The following year, he got a bass guitar and released "Take It Away". The songs on this album were more polished and the lyrics were generally upbeat. In 2004 he colaborated with his sister, Kelli, on a cover album called "How Ya BOOIN'?". This one featured tunes covering six different decades. It was an eclectic mix ranging from Alanis Morrisette to Donovan, and he finally had an electric guitar to play. In early 2005, Rick released "Under My Radar", his third album of original music. Featuring more instruments, the lyrics were a bit more biting at times. Rick was never quite satisfied writing simple love songs. Later that year, he and Kelli recorded their second cover album, "Lost Interest". What had started out as a full album was shortened to six (hence the title) when they came upn an idea for a concept album/rock opera that they are still working on in 2011. "Lost Interest" was an improvement over "How Ya BOOIN'?", and the six songs on it show the potential for better things to come. Rick has regularly recorded one-off songs, some original, some covers, and in 2006 that is the only thing he did. There was no full album of songs, but he did manage a lively cover of "The Facts Of Life" theme song. In 2007, there were two new albums. The first, "A Quick One While You're Here" is a cover of Who songs. The Who is one of Rick's favorite bands, and while he put a lot of work into it, he was generally dissatisfied with the results. Later that year, he produced "The Second Fifteen", inwhich he updated all of the material from "The Second Ten". His recording skills had improved dramatically and since he had a full arsenal of instruments, it was almost like writing brand new material. 2008 was another year for the single songs. In 2009, Rick released a cover album called "LeftOvers". This one featured a lot of different eras and overed bands such as The Jackson 5 and the Super Mario Bros theme song. At the end of 2010, Rick released "Pants On Fire", yet another cover album. This was asurprise gift for Kelli, as each of the songs had been on a cassette from Christmas Eve 1986 that also featured them yelling and fighting with each other. In November, 2011 Rick released "Softer Than Stones", his first album featuring all original music for the first time in several years. In 2012, Rick started performing live for the first time since high school. Starting small with some open stages, he performed in mid-August with Randall Douglass Matson in his first gig in 20 years. He'll be performing more frequently throughout this year and beyond.
