Chris Sgammato
Jam • Tampa, FL
Sgammato is a USF Music Student pursuing a Master's in Music Performance with duel concentrations in voice and saxophone performance. He uses a loop pedal to sing, beatbox, and play saxophone with effects, guitar, bass, kazoo, synthesizer, musical beer bottles, and other noisemakers, all performed and looped live. Combining hip hop beats with funk forms and bass lines, bluesy vocal melodies with jazz chords and licks, and electronic soundscapes with irregular but grooveable chord progressions and time signatures, Sgammato is an Electro-Fusion Acid Jazz One-Man-JamBand. Sgammato enjoys performing a wide variety of music, including opera, musical theatre, reggae, blues/rock, jazz, funk, electronic, experimental, and indie/pop. Audience participation is key at Sgammato shows; it is not uncommon for Chris to ask the audience to participate in his ever-changing song "Musical Democracy", where random fans decide what instruments they want him to play, what key, tempo, style, etc. Sgammato's shows can vary based on the venue and crowd he plays to. If he is feeling the "Indie" thing, he'll keep it to guitar/vox/sax; if some funk is necessary to make some booties shake, he'll beatbox a beat and bust out the bass; if some crooners swing by, he'll lay down a chord progression and play a jazzy tune; if some ragers enter the mix, he'll switch to beats/synth/sax/effects. And if nobody knows what they want (which is often the case), he'll just loop everything and solo over it. You never really know what you're walking into when you go to a Sgammato show!
