“…And for me there's still more material than I can use up in twenty lifetimes”
~ Jerry Garcia
Going to the shows back then was like being with ALL your friends for a night. That’s what we want people to feel like when they see us.
Terrapin Island wants to shake your bones and rock your spirit. That’s our goal. We play Dead-influenced tunes and enjoy both the structure and the chaos of the songs we perform. We stretch, spiral, compress and expand. We feed off the energy of the music which inspired us and retell the stories we experienced as we now hear them played in our heads. Whether it be the Dead, Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison or just songs of our own, we play them as only we can, but always with a tilt to the Grateful Dead. Ultimately we play because we enjoy playing and we believe that’s what our audiences get from us, whether they be festival-goers, bar patrons, wedding guests (or disgruntled neighbors!)
v. blend (blend), blend·ing, blends v.tr. 1. To mix two or more ingredients until they become indistinguishable from each other.
It all started back in 2000 with Rich and Derek getting together to jam in various incarnations on a similar theme. Derek played with David in another band and Rob, well, he was playing his Jerry-flavored riffs and solos in yet another band. Mike came along a couple of years ago and brought the Phil Zone and everyone went “wow”! We discovered the wonders of nature, and the powers of the cosmos came together to join us as friends and musical brothers into the band that is today Terrapin Island. Our universe is New England, but we’ll go places where our music can find a home.
When you can, row your way over to the Island!
