“the Sugar Beets are a Eugene institution. The eight-piece band plays mostly original music. Their songs feature an eclectic mix of vocals, guitars, bass, drums, banjo, violin, mandolin, keyboards, and occasionally sitar and sarod, a stringed, lute-like instrument from India. And although their musical roots are in bluegrass, country, and folk, they also play Motown, pop, Hindi rock, and even disco.”
“Hailed as a dance-inspiring community band, this act fully captured the Oregon Country Fair experience.I was so glad I caught this performance, which turned out to be my favorite of all this weekend, because it was a great reminder of how music can transcend societal expectations and bring together people of all walks of life. ”
“Two KLCC DJs announcing after our Folk Festival set... DJ 1: ...such a treat to have the Sugar Beets here...if you could see the crowd, it's...huge, it's such a sea of people. You don't realize how many people are here until they're all sort of up gathered around in front of the stage raising their arms and dancing and chanting "The Sugar Beets!" DJ 2: ...and when they said "Everybody put your hands up in the air" on the last song, and everybody put their hands up all the way back up to the food booths, I mean, way....behind...out.... DJ 1: ...it's a big lawn. ”
““The Sugar Beets have tapped into a creative vibe that transcends musical styles or formulas. You can’t quite label it…it’s a groove that seems to get people dancing.” ”
"The Sugar Beets have a love of music and band camaraderie that transfers into engaging live shows full of joy and lots of spontaneous dance moves."
"The Sugar Beets are an acoustic dance sensation not to be missed...The Sugar Beets have woven traditional musical styles of the past into a modern and totally original sound that is fresh, inspiring and extremely highly energized. They will set your feet stomping as if you've just arrived at a disco house party at the Grand Ole Opry, and have left fans begging for more."
"With a style akin to Leftover Salmon or Widespread Panic, they issue energetic tunes with the tight musicianship of a band that includes two female vocalists, acoustic guitar, keyboards, fiddle, mandolin, upright bass, and drums. They played Appalachian folk as easily as "The Commitments'-style soul, and the crowd loved it. Watch for their return, hopefully soon!"
