Well I grew up In Tennessee
In a working class family
After high school I got a job
At a local factory
I never thought About college
Or trying to get a degree
It was hard enough
Just to make ends meet
And soon I had my own family
We did alright For 20 years
But then things changed around here
A hostile takeover a corporate deal
A bunch of sharks set out to steal
Ended up closing the factory
And shipped all our jobs overseas
We lost the house my daddy built
Even the small farm he once tilled
I tried to find another job
But a homeless man looks like a slob
At 43 with 3 grown kids
I'm lifting up these garbage lids
Hoping to find half eaten food
To lift my spirits - lift my mood
'cause starving really gets you down
And I can't seem to lose this frown
But Hey, we're doing okay In the U.S.A.
Aren't we, aren't we?
Hey, we're doing okay In the U.S.A.
Aren't we, aren't we... exceptional?
