Bio: The Axe & Fiddle is a pub and music venue located smack in the center of historic downtown Cottage Grove, a charming little town twenty minutes south of Eugene, OR. Part of a downtown resurgence (cafes, bookstores, local craft shops, an award-winning french bakery and more), the Axe & Fiddle is celebrating its fifth anniversary and has become a great venue for national and regional acts, as well as the meeting place for Grovers — what locals call themselves. As Cottage Grove attracts all kinds, so does the pub. You're just as likely to likely to meet a former Hollywood costume designer as an organic farmer who crafts her own cheese. That's no surprise for a city famous as film locations (The General, Animal House, Stand by Me), or the mysterious prodigy Opal Whiteley. Just a few minutes off the 5 Fwy, the pub sits inside the restored Burkholder Woods Building (registered as a historic structure and winner of a State Historic Preservation Award), sort of sharing the space with Kalapuya Books, an amazing, large bookstore with—among other tomes—a huge selection of vintage paperbacks from the 40's and 50's. The covers couldn't be kitschier or cooler. The pub has a changing selection of local and regionally brewed beers, fine wines, and a full bar. There's a pool table and darts upstairs, cozy sitting in the front, and big menu of tasty eats with something for every palate, whether a juicy burger or a bowl of greens & beans. We open everyday (except holidays) at 4pm and the kiddies (under 21) are most welcome until 8:30pm.
